Season 1[]

Episode 1[]

Pip is standing in the kitchen with her family, her mum and brother at the dining table, and her stepdad at the stove, as her stepdad Victor tells the family about how his job as a lawyer went that day. Pip asks her mum, who is sitting at the dining table, if they have more posh crisps, and her mum says no because they are extremely expensive, saying that Pip can get some herself when she gets a job. She then tells Pip that Linda Walker’s catering company is looking for more people for their summer events, one of which includes the Hastings’ silver wedding anniversary party. Her mum then asks why she’s making a sandwich while Victor is making dinner, and Pip says that it’s a starter because she has homework to do, bringing up her EPQ. Victor then says that before she does any homework, she needs to walk the dog.

That night, Pip hangs out in Josh's room while Leanne tells him a bedtime story about Barney. After he's asleep, Leanne tells Pip that her father used to tell the same story, though it was Beetle the Wonderdog back then. She asks Pip not to tell Josh. Pip doesn't remember those stories. She then tells her mum she thinks she's right about her getting a job for catering the Hastings party. Leanne agrees to ask for both Pip and Cara.

Episode 2[]

Episode 3[]

Leanne enters Pip's room with a laundry basket, learning with great humor that her daughter and Cara are attending a party. Vic reminds them that if anyone offers them drugs, to only take half first. The parents tease about meeting that way.

The next night, Pip looks over her detective board when Leanne comes in to ask what happened last night. Josh told her about Pip hogging the duvet. Pip didn't fancy sleeping alone. Leanne wants to talk to her about a phone call she had with Elliot regarding Pip hanging out with Ravi Singh. Pip lies that she hasn't, but Leanne scolds her against lying. She and Victor don't feel this topic is appropriate any longer. Elliot will help her on Monday to pick out a new topic. Pip doesn't argue with her mom and agrees to help Vic with chopping duties for dinner.

Episode 4[]

Leanne comes home with Victor, who helps her carry the groceries. They ask about the interview but Pip tries to brush off the topic. Leanne sees through Pip's lie about meeting with Cara for a school project tonight. Pip admits she's still looking into the case, which Leanne disapproves of. Pip might not be doing the case for her EPQ but she's still doing the case. Leanne tries to forbid her daughter from going, but Pip disobeys her by going anyway. Leanne looks over at a surprised Josh and Vic.

Victor and Leanne are watching TV when Pip returns home late that evening. Leanne greets her from the living room where Vic is asleep on her shoulder. They exchange an 'I love you' before Pip goes to bed.

In the morning, Pip watches her parents jovial nature in the kitchen over his sleeping through the movie they watched last night. He plans to get materials for a party after work. When he's gone, Pip asks Leanne why the family didn't go to Nigeria five years ago with Vic when he went to visit Granny. Leanne surmises it was a long flight for two small children to make.

Once home, Pip sits next to Barney's bed playing with one of his tennis balls when Leanne finds them. Pip tells her about Vic checking into a hotel five years ago and the guest book she found with his name in it. Leanne already knows this is true. Pip wants to know what he was doing there. They were going through a rough patch, he was always working, and she jumped to the conclusion that he was seeing someone else. He actually just needed a minute to take a break. She knows he wasn't seeing anyone else because he told her so. She tells Pip everything is okay, but the girl isn't sure if Vic is really a good guy anymore. All relationships have tough times and Leanne admits she is a bit much sometimes, but Pip thinks she's just enough. Leanne chooses to believe Vic wasn't having an affair. Pip, teary-eyed, says that if the evidence points against someone and you believe them anyway, that makes you an idiot. She storms out of the room.
