Max Hastings is a character in the TV show A Good Girl's Guide to Murder. In the first season of the show, Max is the rich former friend of Sal's who doesn't go along with Pippa's investigation as he's hiding his own dark secrets.
In the second season, Max’s trial is set to take place.
Biography[]
The only child of the wealthy Hastings family, Max grew up with prestige and entitlement. He had a close friend group in Sal Singh, Naomi Ward, and Jake Lawrence.
On New Years Eve, 2018, Jake Lawrence, Max Hastings, and Naomi Ward were involved in a hit and run that resulted in a man being seriously injured. They had struck his vehicle while going above the speed limit and left the stranger unconscious in the car alone. Max made a phone call to Dan da Silva, and the young police officer moved debris to make the scene appear less conspicuous. Max never told his friends who he called or how he covered up the incident. They kept it a secret from Sal as well.

Episode 1[]
Pip looks through Naomi Ward's belongings to find pictures of her friend group, including her, Sal, Max, and Jake Lawrence. That night, she attempts to contact Max on Instagram to set up a time to interview him about the Andie Bell case.
At the Hastings’ party a few days later, Pip watches Max, looking for a good time to approach him. As she enters the Hastings mansion to follow after Max, she sees a gaming room, and then further down the hallway, she sees Jason Bell on the phone with Becca. She goes down the stairs to the basement and finds Max in a room. He agrees to let her interview him as long as she takes a shot for every question, with her reluctantly agreeing. He tells her the same things that Naomi told her, as well as that he, Naomi, and Jake were Sal’s alibi.
Episode 4[]
Pip goes into Naomi's room and opens the laptop. She searches for Tango Tits, discovering it's an Instagram handle belonging to Max Hastings. There is a picture of Naomi, Jake, and Max from the 19th of April. Pip takes a picture of the post and notices the time on the clock - 12:06 a.m. If Sal truly left early, he couldn't have taken the picture.
She runs down the streets of Little Kilton until she bursts into the high school gymnasium where the 2019 class reunion is being held. Becca is giving a memorial for Andie on-stage. Pip is drawn to the class photos in the back of the room. Max approaches to remark on how hot their year group was. It was a shame so many of them ended up dead. He's fucked up either because his mom doesn't love him or his father thinks he's a failure - or both. Pip spots Naomi and angrily marches over to confront her about lying. Naomi leads her away from the group while Max and Becca take notice.

In a flashback to a March 2019 Calamity party, a drugged Becca stumbles around the dance floor. She encounters Sal, Max, and Naomi before staggering into the woods. She moves further and further away from the party before falling on the ground. A man appears behind her. That was the night Becca was raped.
Pip looks at her murder board again. She goes back to Andie's tick list, remembering Andie sold drugs to Max Hastings, whose secret Instagram handle was "Tango Tits" - T.T. Pip calls Max while recording the call. He guesses she's calling to apologize for trying to blame the whole thing on him, but she confronts him about raping Becca Bell at the March 2019 Calamity party with the drugs that Andie sold to him. Max denies the rape, saying it was consensual, and an enraged Pip says it's hard to say no "when you can't speak" before hanging up on him.
Pip speaks with Becca about the rape and learns she told her sister about the assault and asked her to come to the police with her. But instead, Andie said she couldn't because she sold Max the drugs he used. Andie needed the money to leave the next day, but Becca didn't know where. Becca later confesses to killing Andie and putting her body in the caves where the Calamity party was held. While fighting for her life, Pip tells Becca that she knows she's angry, but Max Hastings is to blame. They could go home right now and make it right. Becca refuses as nothing ever happens to people like Max Hastings. Becca is later arrested.
After the event, Pip visits Andie's mural and finds Max waiting for her. He crudely remarks they'll never be a thing no matter how much she wants him. He's sorry about what happened to Becca Bell, calling her out for being a fucking psycho who can't be believed. Pip does believe Becca, which Max chocks up to her being a psycho too. Pip scoffs as she's not the one who has to drug girls until their unconscious to sleep with them. He reiterates that it was consensual. She steps up to him tensely telling him that he's nothing. She's not going to stop until every single person he's ever hurt gets justice. She gives him a big smile, pats his shoulder, and saunters off with her head held high.
